This publication contains the report of the Panel of Government Experts on verification in all its aspects, including the role of the United Nations in the field of verification. The Panel held three sessions in 2006 and examined the purpose of verification; its conceptual evolution; developing methods, procedures and technologies; and verification and compliance mechanisms. The report includes 21 generic recommendations for active consideration by Member States, treaty bodies or the United Nations.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms, the Office for Disarmament Affairs is publishing this special edition of the Disarmament Study Series. This volume contains a newly written overview of the Register for reference by Governments and the interested public, original material to guide national points of contact in preparing and submitting reports for the Register, and the report of the 2016 Group of Governmental Experts on the continuing operation of the Register.
This publication contains the report of the Group of Governmental Experts to make recommendations on possible aspects that could contribute to but not negotiate a treaty banning the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices, which held four sessions in 2014 and 2015. In the report, the Group outlined the details of its deliberations, characterized the range of expert views on aspects of a treaty and presented its conclusions and recommendations.
